Identity Directed Homeschooling

I am trying to put together our first year of homeschooling materials. As I have been doing research over the internet, I came across this article: Identity Directed Homeschooling by Chris Davis of the Elijah Company. Wow! What Powerful Stuff!!! I am glad I discovered this article at the beginning of my homeschooling journey, as it has really made me change the direction I want to go with homeschooling.

Thought I would share it with all of you. Love to get your feedback on this article!

My first blog hop

I am going to be doing my first blog hop today. I am so excited to try it out and read other homeschooler's blogs. I will keep you posted and see how it goes...

Hip Homeschool Hop Button Ok, so last night I got on to my first blog hop with Hip Homeschoolers Hop, and can I tell you, I found some really great stuff. Especially ideas for Father's day. Let me share a couple of these ideas:

Father's Day Notepads:  This fabulous idea comes from Growing Little Hearts. She took her daughters artwork and turned it into a little notepad that her dad could use at work. Very Clever!

Nature Study Bracelet: This idea I found on Scott School. What a creative way to turn nature study into artwork. I also thought it would be great to use as a bookmark as well.

Father's Day Interview Poster: Living Montessori Now has a lot of great Father's day ideas. I really liked this idea of a Father's day interview poster from Simply Montessori. It's a cute way to get little kids involved in a homemade present for their dad.

I do not consider myself to be a very creative artsy craftsy kind of gal, but these ideas have made me want to sit down with my boys and give it a try... Thanks for all the creativity!

Time to Simplify My Life

Today has been one of those days where I realize that I am trying to do too many things with my time, so that really I am not accomplishing anything. So now, as the days are warming up (sometimes) I have decided that as part of Spring Cleaning, we are going to simplify our lives. It's time to get rid off all the stuff in our house that we don't really need, old toys, clothing, boxes of junk that have been in storage all these many months, etc.
But to go along with that, I am going to simplify my life, as well as my boys lives as well. What are we really doing with our time? Are we involved in worthwhile pursuits? How can we make our lives simpler, so that we can spend more quality time together as a family? What things do I need to give up, throw away, stop doing in order to make life better?

I heard a couple of months ago, a great idea, of where family members come together and make a list of the most important things that they value. Say, four or five values that represent them. With these values they choose a color and an object that represent these values, and they make a coat of arms with it. So now, when the family sees these objects or colors, they are reminded of the values their family stands for. Some of these families even made t-shirts with their coat of arms on it. I love this idea for our homeschool t-shirts.

Here is my list of values: (It will be interesting to see what my family members come up with.)

Family
Religion
Education
Service
Cultural Awareness
